Supporter Guide

Last updated on Aug 11, 2025

If you love reading blogs, watching videos, listening to podcasts, or engaging with independent creators online — this guide is for you.

With Chimoney Web Monetization, you can support the content you enjoy with small payments that stream in real-time, all while keeping your data private and staying in control of how much you give.

Step 1: Download the Chimoney App

  1. Download the Chimoney App from the Play Store or App Store.

  2. Sign up with your email address.

Step 2: Complete KYC Verification

To access your wallet and start receiving payments, you’ll need to complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. This is a standard security step required for financial services.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Submit a government-issued ID.

  • Provide basic personal details (like your full name and country).

  • Wait for verification approval (usually within a day).

  • Once you’re verified, you’ll be able to fully access your Chimoney wallet.

Step 3: Get Your Payment Pointer

After KYC approval, you can navigate to Account and click on Interledger wallet address, you will receive a wallet address that looks like this:

https://ilp.chimoney.com/username

You’ll need this address to connect to the extension.

Step 4: Fund Your Wallet

Before you can support creators, you’ll need to add funds:

  1. On the homepage, tap ‘Wallet Funding’.

  2. Enter the amount and currency you want to fund.

  3. Follow the payment steps to complete the transaction.

Your Chimoney balance will reflect the updated amount immediately after the funding is successful.

Step 5: Install the Web Monetization Extension

To send payments to creators as you visit their content, download the Web Monetization browser extension in your browser:

Step 6: Configure the Extension and Connect Your Chimoney Wallet

Once you’ve installed the Web Monetization extension, follow these steps to connect it to your Chimoney App wallet:

  • Paste Your Wallet Address
Open the extension and paste the wallet address (payment pointer) you copied from your Chimoney App account.

  • Set Your Budget

    • Enter the amount you want the extension to have permission to spend.

    • Choose whether this budget should renew monthly.

    • You can always update this later in the extension’s settings.

  • Click “Connect”

After entering your wallet address and budget amount, click the “Connect” button.

  • Sign In to Chimoney
You’ll be redirected to a Chimoney login page.

    • Enter your Chimoney App email and password.

    • This step ensures that the extension is securely linked to your wallet.

  • Approve the Budget Authorization
Once signed in, you’ll be asked to authorize the withdrawal of the budget amount from your Chimoney wallet.

    • Click “Approve” to allow the extension to use the funds for Web Monetization payments.
  • Confirmation
After approval, you’ll see a message confirming:

“Your wallet is now successfully connected to the extension.”

You can now close the tab and start supporting creators!

Step 7: Start Supporting Creators

Now that your wallet is connected to the Web Monetization extension and funded, you're ready to support creators!

There are two ways you can send payments:

One time Payments

If you want to show extra support or tip a creator directly, you can send a one-time payment from your extension budget.

How To Send a One-Time Payment:

  1. Make sure you’re on the creator’s website

  2. Open the Web Monetization extension.

  3. Enter the amount you want to send (make sure it’s within your available balance).

  4. Click “Send Now”.

The payment will be instantly deducted from your extension budget and sent to the creator's Chimoney wallet.

Continuous (Automatic) Payments

When you visit a website, blog, or page that’s Web Monetized (you’ll know this when your web monetization icon has a green circle when you navigate to the site), the extension will automatically begin streaming small payments to the creator in real time as long as the page is open and active in your browser.

How It Works:

  • Default payment rate: $0.01 per minute (or equivalent in your local currency)

  • You don’t have to click anything, just browse and support.

  • Payments pause if:

    • You switch tabs

    • Minimize the browser

    • Close the tab

    • Your budget runs out

To adjust the rate or disable continuous payments:

  • Click the Settings (⚙️) icon in the extension

  • Go to the Rate tab

  • Change the hourly rate or toggle off continuous payments

Note: One-time payments can be made even if you have continuous payments disabled.
